Chores teach your kids accountability, responsibility, life skills, and hard work.  Chores teach your kids to be productive members of society.  Starting at home is the first and best step to helping your kids be successful in life and using chore charts can help you along the way.

Why a Kids Free Printable Chore Chart?

Let’s face it, when our kids become adults, we will not be there to do everything for them.  That is why it is so important to teach your kids life skills, including chores.

Yes, I know most times it is easier to do the chores ourselves.  We, as parents can complete them much faster and do them correctly.  Plus, nagging is no fun but a chore chart will help with this daunting aspect.  We must teach our kids responsibility and accountability.  It is our job as parents to prepare them for the big wide world. I think you will love my Chore Chart template.

How to Start a Chore Chart

You can start out with simple tasks for younger children, such as brushing your teeth, getting dressed, and washing your face.  These will give them a sense of accomplishment and grow their self-esteem.

Daily Chores for Your Free Printable Chore Charts

Since we have lots of pets, my daughter’s chores include watering and feeding them and cleaning up after them. These are great chores for starting out and chores that they can continue into their teen years.

Free Printable Chore Chart Weekly Chores

You can also add a weekly chore that they are responsible for 1 day a week such as dusting, sweeping, cleaning the cat’s liter box, and doing a load of laundry.

Set Goals for your Children

Set goals for your kids, such as no tablet time until the chores are finished.  Chore charts can really help kids stay on track of what needs to be done, without constant reminders.

Should I Pay my Kids for Doing Chores?

Paying your kids to do chores is really up to you.  Some people consider daily chores a part of everyone’s responsibility to the household and I think that is great!  To incentivize my daughter to do her daily chores, I pay for her Roblox account every month.  She does not receive an allowance for her daily chores.

If you are wanting to give your child an allowance, but not pay them for daily chores, you can set up a separate chart with different monetary incentives for extra chores.

When creating chores for your children make sure they are age-appropriate.  Here are a few examples of age-appropriate chores.

Should my Toddler Do Chores?

Ages 2-3

Toddlers love to help with chores and this is where your patience may be tested. Be patient and show your gratitude when they complete a chore. You can use stickers on the chore chart, like my Free Potty Training Charts, instead of just checking it off each time a chore is completed.

Ages 4-5

The great thing about preschool-aged kids is that they are still fairly motivated to help. Though they are still young and may need your assistance, there are some chores they are ready to do on their own.

Ages 6-8

Parents and caregivers can guide children to become self-sufficient in their chores by using chore charts to keep track of their responsibilities. Continue to praise your kids when they complete the chores, especially when they do so without being reminded.

Kids at this age will appreciate a set schedule and expectations. Try not to change it without the input and support of the people it directly affects. Make sure to address rewards and negative consequences so that these results are understood in advance.
